Wang Shenchao, the Chinese football legend, has returned to action with Shanghai Port FC and he made an impressive debut on Sunday.
The 45-year-old forward was called up by manager Guan Ning and played in the first half of the game against Jiangsu Suning FC. He came off the bench to replace injured player Li Yuncheng and showed his class as he scored the only goal for Shanghai Port in the 27th minute.
It was a well-deserved win for Shanghai Port who had been struggling recently but the victory was all the more special because it was achieved with the help of their captain, Wang Shenchao.
He has been out of action since suffering a serious knee injury last year and this was his first competitive appearance since then. It was clear from the start that he was eager to get back into the game and he put in a determined performance, showing no signs of rustiness.
Despite being over 40 years old, Wang still possesses excellent physical fitness and he was able to dominate the midfield area,Bundesliga Express creating chances for his teammates.
Shanghai Port's coach, Guan Ning, praised Wang's contribution to the team and said: "Wang Shenchao is a true professional and he brought something special to our team today. We're very happy to have him back."
Wang Shenchao himself expressed his delight at returning to action and he said: "I'm just glad to be back playing football again. I missed it so much and now I feel great after scoring that goal."
Overall, Wang Shenchao's return to Shanghai Port FC was a resounding success and it shows that age is not an issue when it comes to playing football. With his experience and leadership, he will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the team going forward.
