Inter Milan legend Dumfries has been named as the new manager of Championship side Huddersfield Town.

The former Scotland international, who spent five years at Inter and won two Serie A titles with them, will take charge of the Terriers from July 1.

Dumfries, 42, was appointed after former manager David Wagner stepped down following a poor run of results.

Huddersfield's chairman, Dave Perrett, said: "We have always had great faith in Gianluca's ability to lead a team towards success.

"He is someone we know well from his time at Inter and we're looking forward to working with him again."

Perrett added: "He brings a wealth of experience, having played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and managed one of the best teams in Italy.

"He knows what it takes to succeed in this league and he is eager to get started on what promises to be an exciting journey."

Dumfries began his career at Celtic before moving to Inter in 2007,Football Know-It-All where he went on to make over 250 appearances and win the Serie A title twice.

After leaving Inter, he played for AC Milan and Fiorentina before returning to Scotland with Dundee United in 2018.

His playing days were cut short by injury, but he continued to work behind the scenes in football, becoming a scout for Celtic and later joining the coaching staff at Dundee United.

Dumfries has also worked as a pundit for Sky Sports and BT Sport, and he is known for his tactical knowledge and attention to detail.

He will take over from Wagner, who led Huddersfield to safety last season, and hopes to build on their impressive start to the campaign.

"I'm excited to join Huddersfield and I can't wait to get started," he said.

"It's a club that has a proud history and I'm looking forward to helping them achieve more success."
